Remembering Nicole Raphael

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our Resource Analyst, Nicole Raphael, at the age of 34. Nicole passed away on December 10, 2017.
Nicole worked in the GMAO for about six years, in which her straightforward approach to dealing with both scientists and the budget, combined with her larger-than-life personality, were major factors in the GMAO’s success. Aside from the demanding work associated with budget management, Nicole played a major role in the GMAO’s development of new budget planning tools that will serve us in the coming years.
Meetings with Nicole were always a pleasure. Alongside the financial discussions, there was always mention of Nicole’s activities with her family and her upcoming travel plans. Her no-nonsense approach to life was very apparent in the past few months, when her chemotherapy led to her working off site much more than she wished: Nicole continued to get the job done, never once complaining about her illness, and always remaining optimistic about what the future would bring.
Nicole will be missed.
