GEOS Composition Forecasts

GEOS Composition Forecasts

The GEOS Composition Forecasting (GEOS-CF) system produces global, three-dimensional distributions of atmospheric composition, including surface pollutants and tropospheric and stratospheric composition. The GEOS-CF products include a near-real time “analysis” segment, where meteorological fields are informed by other GEOS data assimilation systems, and a 5-day “forecast” segment that projects atmospheric composition using internal model physics and GEOS-Chem chemistry.

GEOS-CF is intended for use by researchers from NASA and the broader community. Used alongside NASA’s broad range of space-based and in-situ observations, GEOS-CF provides additional tools for understanding atmospheric processes. The GEOS-CF predictions are intended as research datasets, which have numerous applications: to study the science of composition forecasting, to help guide NASA’s field campaigns, and to examine global predictions of surface air quality in context of emissions and transport.
