GEOS-IT Configuration

GEOS-IT uses a reconfiguration of the GEOS-5.27.1 system that has been used since February 2021 for the GMAO’s GEOS-FP product. This configuration includes a three-dimensional variational (3DVar) assimilation technique that is run using a nominal "50-km" spatial resolution. The cubed-sphere model is configured as a "c180L72" system (six cubed faces each having 180 × 180 grid points and 72 hybrid model levels) with a corresponding cartesian grid of 576 longitudinal points and 361 latitudinal points, a resolution of 0.625°longitude by 0.5°latitude.
