PROGRESS on IESA - Atmospheric Chemistry Constituent Component

Begin Main Content

[ May, 2010 ]

We generated emissions for 2000-2006. The approach follows Harvard (GEOS-Chem), using most appropriate databases for different regions. The interannual scaling factors also follow Harvard. Detailed inventories have not yet been released for 2007. AR-5 scenarios (for 1900-2010) will be implemented.

Some tests have been conducted using CCM (GEOS-5 with COMBO):

  • - Time-slice runs for 2000 and 2005 underway
  • - Evaluation of 2005 vs NOAA Global Monitoring Division (GMD) sites (CO, O3)

A problem was identified with the replay configuration for MERRA where differences in the grid configurations led to residual circulations that had a detrimental impact on trace gas transport. The problem (the grid configuration) has been rectified and simulations are being conducted to test that the replay now works correctly.

We have identified and started collecting observations to be used in evaluation.

  • GMD sites, Intex-B, Mozaic
  • MOPITT, AIRS, OMI, ...
  • Site-specific sampling issues being considered (e.g., marine-air samples at coastal locations)
