JPL provided mockup-software for their MLS modules. A walk-through review of JPL&%39;s MLS code structure of MLS was conducted during JPL/MLS-GMAO telecons in March-April.

We also conducted assimilation experiments with MLS ozone retrievals in the new version of GEOS5-GSI systems (5.5.1) to demonstrate the value of the MLS ozone data (Dec-Feb 2006) in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere during the major stratospheric warming events.

A summary of the GSI-code modifications (new modules and observational classes) needed to implement the assimilation of MLS radiances was prepared. See PDF of summary.
