PROGRESS on IESA - Atmospheric Chemistry Aerosol Component

Begin Main Content

[ May, 2010 ]

The following series of experiments were developed to a guide adjustment of the QFED biome-emission coefficients as to maximize agreement with satellite data.

Period: 2003-2006
Resolution: 2x2.25
Tracers: Aerosols and CO (so we can use CO data to help validation)
Mode: Free-running (F_ prefix), Intermittent replay (R_ prefix)

Control:

R_control: Fortuna 2.1 tag with monthly means GFED BB emissions
   F_control: same. no Replay

Basic Experiments:

  • A) R_mmQFED: monthly mean QFED v2.0 emissions
         F_mmQFED: same, but no replay
  • B) R_dmQFED: daily mean QFED v2.0 emissions
  • C) R_ddQFED: daily-mean QFED v2.0 with prescribed diurnal cycle

These are to be followed by the inverse tuning of the BB emissions (QFED-2.1):

  • D) R_mmNOBB: all biomass burning set to zero
  • E) R_bbQFEDgl: only BB emissions due to boreal forests
  • F) R_bbQFEDtf: only BB emissions due to non-boreal forests
  • G) R_bbQFEDsv: only BB due to savana
  • H) R_bbQFEDgl: only BB due to grassland
