Overview:
===============================================================================

Valentina Aquila (valentina.aquila@nasa.gov) created the original files by joining
S. Carn's database of explosive volcanic eruptions, and
degassing volcanic emissions. The dataset is maintained by
Peter Colarco (peter.r.colarco@nasa.gov) and Fei Liu (fei.liu@nasa.gov).

Eruptive and persistent emisions data is currently available through 18 Mar 2025.

Persistent (i.e. degassing) only emissions are aslo present in the file:
so2_volcanic_emissions_CARN_v202401.degassing_only.rc

These .rc files are in the format:

  ###  LAT (-90,90), LON (-180,180), SULFUR [kg S/s], ELEVATION [m], CLOUD_COLUMN_HEIGHT [m]
  ### If elevation=cloud_column_height, emit in layer of elevation
  ### else, emit in top 1/3 of cloud_column_height
