Return Value difference maps based on GEV Distribution (El Niño minus La Niña)

This page exhibits the differences in return values between El Niño and La Niña years. Difference is obtained by subtracting return value with respect to La Niña years from those for El Niño years. Difference maps are shown for four extreme-related quantities and four seasons. From the present difference maps, it is possible to identify how much the extreme-related quantities respond to El Niño and La Niña forcing with season. It is found from the maps that the region of wetter/drier condition is subject to change with respect to ENSO warm/cold phase and season. However, please note that the limited El Niño and La Niña episodes were used for the calculation of return values due to the limited data period. Therefore, errors resulting from limited sampling might be contained in these plots.
