Validation of Terra First Look Assimilated Ozone Against Indepedent Observations

This page contains comparisons of the Terra first look assimilated ozone with two types of independent observations, that is the ones that are not assimilated in the system. The two instruments providing independent data are: HALOE and POAM III.

Figure 1: Means of 260 HALOE profiles and collocated analysis profiles and their root-mean-square (RMS) differences are shown. The HALOE profiles were measured between January 2 and February 6, 2000 in two latitude bands: 69 to 31 degrees south and 20 to 48 degrees north.

Figure 2: Means of 313 POAM III profiles and collocated analysis profiles and their RMS differences are shown. All these POAM III profiles were measured between the latitudes of 66.1 and 67.7 degrees north during the month of February 2000.
