MERRA: MODERN ERA RETROSPECTIVE-ANALYSIS FOR RESEARCH AND APPLICATIONS
|
Begin Main Content
Approach to Discontinuities
A crucial issue for climate reanalysis is the effect of discontinuities in the assimilation stream. MERRA is taking the following steps to compensate for discontinuities in the reanalysis of the satellite era.
- The public web page on multiple stream investigation explains the computational streams to be used in the MERRA reanalysis. It presents tests which confirm that our overlapping streams converge, and explains that MERRA will run a Reduced Observing System Baseline (ROSB) experiment.
- The extranet web page on Data Impact Studies reviews the evidence for shifts in the overall climate of reanalysis systems when there is a significant change in the observing system.
- The extranet web page on Model Climate Moisture Bias Correction describes research conducted by the MERRA team to develop corrections for the impact of SSMI/I observations on the moisture parameters of the climate.
