The GMAO supports a variety of customers with operational, reanalysis and reprocessing and mission products. Operational and specialized mission products are generated real time from the Data Assimilation System (DAS) that operates 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Reanalysis and reprocessing is accomplished utilizing subsets of the DAS designed to meet customer output requirements.
DAS Overview
The GMAO Data Assimilation System (DAS) is executed four times per day for each synoptic time. Typically a single forecast at 0Z is produced. The input data are GDAS output files with additional data from AIRS observations. Output products are delivered to the Goddard archive on the morning of the next day and in near realtime to the NCCS data portal during mission (field campaign) support.
Operational Products
For more details on GEOS-5 data products, please refer to the recently finalized GEOS-5 File Specification Version 1.0 (The older VERSION 0.1 is retained for your reference.) All the data products are generated at 1/2 degree (lat) by 2/3 degree (lon) horizontal spatial resolution. Click on the following links to view C programs referenced in the Specification: readdata.c and readdata_eos.c
Reanalysis and Reprocessing Products
GEOS-4 reprocessing covering the period 1979 - 2003, in support of the CERES instrument team, began October 2003 and is scheduled to be completed September, 2005. The reprocessing uses GEOS-4.0.3, a frozen version of the GEOS-4 system.
In addition to the historical period, forward processing will occur using this frozen system until 2007. The forward processing runs approximately 3 weeks behind real-time.
The following data products, identified by their ESDT shortnames, are archived at the ECS/GSFC DAAC: D4CAPMIS, D4CAEMIS, D4CAETRP, D4CAXMIS, D4CAXENG, D4CAXSTR, D4CAXCLD and D4CAXLSM.
For more details on GEOS-4 data products, please refer to the GEOS-4 File Specification . The access to the reprocessed data products is currently restricted to the CERES team and authorized users.
