Workshop on Sensitivity Analysis and Data Assimilation in Meteorology and Oceanography

1–5 June 2015, Stonewall Resort
Roanoke, West Virginia, USA

1. A list of abstract titles received has been sent to the workshop email list. In April the abstracts themselves will be posted on our website. The list does not include abstracts for assigned longer talks. Names of persons attending but not presenting are also not included here.

2. The abstracts have not been reviewed for their suitability. You should hear about their approvals within about 2 weeks. None has been rejected for the previous nine Adjoint workshops as far as I remember.

3. All speakers for the assigned longer talks have not been determined. So far, however, it includes Martin Leutbecher, Loik Berre, Andy Moore, Mike Fisher, Ricardo Todling, and Nikki Prive.

4. If you plan on attending but have not submitted an abstract, please let me know so I can prepare a tentative count of attendees.

5. If you plan on attending the pre-workshop tutorials, even if you already told me, let me know so that I can obtain an accurate count.

6. Travel between the hotel and "local" airports:

a. The 3 airports to consider are Clarksburg WV (CKB; 40 min. from the hotel), Pittsburgh International (PIT; 2 hr), and Dulles (Washington) (IAD; 4 hr). While travel to IAD may be cheaper, it may be much more difficult to join a carpool, and extremely costly to take a taxi otherwise. International travelers should allow up to 2 hours to go through customs and immigration at their airport of entry into the U.S.

b. We will assist car pooling with those who rent cars. Note that you should not need a car on site because there is almost nothing nearby (not even a tavern), except for the state park in which the hotel is located.

c. The hotel will also arrange a small bus for transport between PIT and the hotel that holds up to 28 passengers whose cost would be apportioned among those who ride it. If the bus is full that cost would be approximately $35 one-way. Since CKB is directly on the way, it would also stop there. Details would be arranged later, but there would only be one trip each way, departing PIT on Sunday 31/3 at about 1700 to be at the hotel for dinner and returning to PIT about 1300 on Friday 5/6 with airport arrival by 1600. If at this stage of your planning, you would like to take this bus, please let me know so I can get an approximate count. For late arrivals or ealy departures who are not carpooling with rental cars, a pre-arranged transport shared by 3 people would cost about $110 each way between PIT and the hotel.

For the organizing committee, Ron Errico
